Our Upcoming events for end of May and June 2026
The problem with wanting to be creative, is that you have all these ideas and want to execute them all at the same time. Alas, that has never worked for me, or anyone I know. I know I function a bit better when I organise myself a little bit more and maybe that will work for you so that you can plan your crafting time better too.
To that end, I decided to list all the things we definitely planned as well as things we would like to do in the near future.
30 May: Mindful Crochet
time: 9:00 / 9:30 (beginner / non-beginner)
by: Yolande Venter
cost: R380
to bring: Hook, yarn
what you get: Notes, refreshments, some things to complete your project.
We all need some time to restore our inner world. Yolande has chosen to focus on the rhythm of crochet to help her connect with her nervous system. She says: “Practising in psychology and being a long-time crochet enthusiast, I’ve come to understand what many crafter already intuitively know. Whether crochet is your daily ritual or quiet refuge, this workshop offers space to slow down and reconnect.”
Bookings are essential.
6 June: Journalling techniques
time: 9:00
by: Juanita Muir and Monique Jansen van Rensburg
cost: R150
to bring: Journal, stationery, enthusiasm
what you get: Refreshments, a magazine to use for pictures, ideas
For those of us who love to create, and want to keep record of our projects, this class is perfect. Juanita is famous for her socks, and she shows us her journal for keeping track of all the socks. She is also an avid journal keeper of her live and other projects, so there is no shortages of examples. Monique loves journalling and has a stationery stash to envy. They will show us all types of techniques that will elevate our own journalling experiences.
13 June: Yarnie Fest Saturday Edition aka Knit in public Day
time: all day
International Knit in Public Day is celebrated on the second Saturday of June every year. The objective of the holiday is to showcase knitting as an enjoyable activity to partake in — for all ages, not just doting grandparents looking to make a sweater for their darling grandchildren. The day brings with it a sense of community for knitters, who often celebrate together by knitting in public spaces to make their hobby more visible and accessible to the public. Us who love to crochet or embroider or weave or spin, also make this a holiday to partake in as all fibre arts as worthy of attention.
We decided this year not to have an event outside as all people who love to work with yarn need access to yarn as well. You are however, as always, welcome to bring your current WIP (work in progress for those who haven’t mastered the language yet) We will offer good coffee, a cuppa for those who prefer tea, and cake.
20 June: Beginner crochet workshop
time: 9:30
by: Jana
cost: R400
to bring: 4mm hook (you can buy it here too)
what you get: class notes, refreshments, yarn for the class
You always wanted to learn how to crochet but have no idea where to start. This is perfect as Jana demystify yarn choices, hook size, and pattern language. She also introduces the magical world of charts. She does all of this by way of showing you how to do the quintessential crochet object, namely the granny square.
In the planning phases:
27 June: Pop up store by Aldert Yarns.
4 July: Sock knitting by Juaknits
11 July: Yarnie Fest Saturday Edition
18 July: Brioche in the round Tunisian crochet way by Sonja van Wyk
