Baby Yak Lace Yarn by MYak, exotic and ethical, right at the tip of your needles!
Ultra-luxurious, and super soft, Baby Yak & Silk Yarn by Myak is a light fingering-weight made with Baby Yak Fibre and Silk. It has all of the best qualities of baby yak with the gorgeous sheen and drape of silk.
Allow this gorgeous yarn to transport you on a glamorous adventure into the land of breathtaking scenery, high-altitude and extreme climates, with a touch of extra luxury from further East.
As with any yarn of incredible quality, you can expect your garment to bloom and drape, slink and shine. It will make a soft and light fabric; perfect for your favourite warm-weather garments and accessories. The fabric is strong enough to maintain your preferred cable and also flexible enough to hold its shape in lace.
Harvested by Tibetan nomads of unyielding spirits, Yak fibre is gathered by brushing the soft undercoat of domesticated yak. Tibetan nomads are singular people, known for their hospitality and harmonious co-existence with nature.
As all-natural fibres, Yak fibre is thermally efficient and intelligent. Warm and lustrous, lightweight and breathable, this yarn is a perfect choice for our varied South African climate.
This yarn is spun from the finest fibres in the best mills at the foothills of the Italian Alps. They do not undergo any depigmentation processes.
I am thrilled to stock MYak at The Yarn Room. Not only are their yarns gorgeous, but Paola and Andrea also strive to imbue their business with care for people, animals and their environment. From the start to your gorgeous, luxurious crafted item, their passion and commitment is a veritable joy to work with.

A note on colour from Paola and Andrea:
According to the down color, we obtain three natural shades (chocolate, desert and oatmeal) which we dye in order to get our palette of soft colors that evoke the five elements of nature. Most yaks are of an intense shade, therefore light colors are very rare and even more precious.
On our baby yak colors, we only dye on the natural basis, no bleaching or decoloring. Each color will vary from season to season depending on the shade of the natural fibers, making it at times darker and at times lighter. This is the beauty of working with natural fibers.
